Pet Photography Tips

As much as we love and cherish photos of our favorite animals, it is often hard to capture them on film. However, there are several tricks for digital cameras that can help you obtain sharper, better pictures of your pets.

First, take your pictures in a location with natural light. This will help diminish the eye glare created when using the flash. Also, some animals do not like the flash and will run away, ruining your picture.

Take lots of pictures. Pets are not usually able to sit still like humans are, so if you set your camera to take three or four pictures in a row, you have a better chance of getting a shot that you like. There is often a setting on digital cameras where you can change the amount of pictures the camera takes in sequence.

Use a fast shutter speed. Some digital cameras have options such as “pets and kids” or “action” that you can use instead of changing the shutter speed. These settings will automatically set your shutter speed to a faster one, allowing you to capture pictures faster and reducing the shooting-pet-photoschance that your pet will be in the middle of moving in your shot.

Finally, as a matter of preference, most pet pictures look better when they are taken from down where the pet is and not from up above. Sit on the floor or put your animal up on a table or counter where you can be on an equal level.
